Open Joint-Stock Company “Fourth Generating Company of the Wholesale Electricity Market” (OGK-4) is the largest thermal wholesale generating company in Russia in terms of sales.The power volume produced by the Company’s power plants equals to approximately 5% of total power production in the country.OGK-4 comprises one-of-a-kind power plants in terms of their technical and economic characteristics: the largest Eurasian thermal power plant Surgutskaya-2 (4,800 MW installed capacity) and Berezovskaya power plant located on the territory of Kansko-Achinsky inexhaustible lignite basin.
OGK-4 was established on March 2, 2005. On March 4, 2005, the Company was registered in Surgut, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District – Yugra. OGK-4 comprises 5 power plants (the so-called GRESes — State Regional Power Plants): Surgutskaya GRES-2, Berezovskaya GRES, Shaturskaya GRES, Smolenskaya GRES, Yajvinskaya GRES.The total installed capacity of OGK-4 is 8,630 MW, 2,179.3 Gcal/h.
In the autumn of 2007, international energy E.ON Group (E.ON) was declared the winning bidder for the acquisition of the governmental stake held by RAO UES of Russia and the additional issue of shares of OGK-4, and thereby became the owner of 69.34 per cent of the capital of the Company. Later, the stake of the Group in OGK-4 capital was increased to 78.3 per cent.
